課程概述

This Sophomore Composition module requires students to develop various writing skills and the instructor emphasizes critical thinking as well as creative ideas. Students are especially encouraged to apply their ideas exchanged during class discussion to their essays and other writing tasks required for this module. The training of writing skills is combined with reading practice. Students must be prepared to preview their assigned texts before attending class. During the first term, they submit three essays, and during the second term they submit two essays, including one short critique paper. Students are required to attend one-on-one tutorial sessions in the instructor’s office after submitting the first draft of each essay. All student essays, unless otherwise announced, will be available for the class to read and discuss as course materials. There are also group projects and other class activities including workshops and film screening as well as lectures from guest speakers.

課程目標
The goal of this course is to introduce some of the main modes of English writing through detailed readings of models by various writers as well as former students, and to give students the opportunity to develop skills through writing papers and other shorter pieces.
